What does the EU-India free trade agreement cover?
The free trade agreement between the European Union and India reduces tariffs and trade barriers between the two markets. After almost two decades of negotiations, it was politically concluded in January 2026. In September 2026, the European Commission requested authorization to sign it. The Council of the EU, the European Parliament and India still have to approve it, and entry into force is expected in 2027. For many German industries, such as mechanical engineering, this opens up new opportunities in the Indian market. prexma advises on market entry and the practical consequences for your business.
